RIP Jerusalem

Due to circumstances outside of my control, I have been advised that we no longer train on Jerusalem Road effective immediately.

I started working at SPFHS in September of 1996. During that fall season, I would frequently go out and run with the cross country team as my schedule permitted, even though I was not the coach. I began coaching in the spring season of 1997 and have been coaching every season since, including the summers. I have probably run that stretch of road more than anyone reading this post put together, and in every weather condition imaginable. My fondest memory of my time spent traversing Jerusalem Road comes from back in 1997 (before I suffered my injuries) when I tore through there en route to setting (what I believe to be) the course record in winning the Scotch Plains Day 5-Miler. I didn't run too many races after that, and I think that was the last 5-mile race I ever ran. I never did use that $30 gift certificate to Nuts & Plenty that I won.

Most of the miles I ran on that road were with the kids I have coached, both boys and girls, of which there have been many over the past 10+ years. Since I am a grown man, I can still run that stretch of road on my own time, but it just won't be the same.
